The Afrofuturism Songwriting Wokeshop is a creative space where students dig deeper into the cosmic, interplanetary, metaphysical and whimsical poetic nature of lyric-writing. Taught by award-winning sonic alchemist, Ami Kim, this wokeshop is for anyone who feels like a starseed and desires to expressively expand their cosmic nature through lyrics and song. During the wokeshop, Kim teaches in open discussion the foundations of songwriting (structure, lyric-writing tools, and song styles across genres) while also exploring the specific cosmic lyricisms that find their way into the songs from artists such as Janelle Monae, Willow & Jaden Smith, Pharrell Williams, Esperanza Spalding, Erykah Badu, & Oshun. The wokeshop finishes with a mini lyric-writing exercise and lyric sharing session. As a goal, students are able to expand the creative aura of their pens to connect deeper with the Cosmos and themselves while writing positive spells that speak their Truth, Light, and Desires into the Universe. *Price does not include travel, lodging or meals for lead facilitator Ami Kim if traveling farther than 20 miles or more outside of the Los Angeles City area.
